Simon Bligh 6th Dan

Simon Sensei has been training in Shotokan Karate since 1974, where he started in his hometown of Liverpool.  After relocating to London, he spent many years as a member of Enoeda Sensei`s famous Marshall St Dojo. In 1990-1991 he spent a year living and working in Japan and whilst there continued his training at the JKA Hombu Dojo in Tokyo.  In 2004 he joined the JKS and has been a big contributor to the success of JKS in England. He has a wealth of experience in Shotokan Karate and believes in "Karate for everyone, for all your life." He is now Technical Director of HDKI GB.

Ricardo Galina 6th Dan

Ricardo Sensei has been training for four decades, starting with his parents, who were also professional karate instructors. In 2001, he left his full-time dojo and moved to Japan, were he spent the next several years training on the instructors’ course and becoming a personal student of Keigo Abe Sensei. He is now Chief Instructor of JKSA Mexico and holds numerous world championship titles.

This course is open to all karate-ka regardless of grade or association.

1pm to 2.30pm and 2.45pm to 4.15pm training (followed by club gradings from 4.30pm)

Cost:

Adults: both sessions €35; one session €20

Children: both sessions €25; one session €15

All Welcome from any organisation.

No Spectators Permitted.  Training will be under Covid-19 guidelines.  Please bring your own hand sanitiser and use before (and after).  No access to changing facilities.  Please wear masks on arrival (park in the car park on the left before proceeding to the sports centre).

Christian Øygarden

Christian Sensei began training in 1998 in his hometown of Kongsberg, Norway with the Norwegian Shotokan Federation. In 2004 he moved to Vestby and began training with Robert Hagen 7th Dan HDKI, a senior instructor of the NSF. During these years, Christian has sought out a variety of instructors and has been a regular attendee on the numerous seminars the group host. Innovative, inventive and individual, Christian’s karate has developed tremendously, and he is now the chief instructor of Vestby Karate Club.

Paul began training at age 7 and started as an assistant instructor when he was 15. He competed from a young age attaining junior and senior kumite and kata titles at association and squad level, including 3 individual senior SEKU kata titles and winning the technical excellence award. He achieved his current rank of 5th Dan in January 2011. He started Plymouth Karate-Do in 1998 and has succeeded in supporting students of all ages and ability to achieve their goals. He strongly believes in helping others, both in physical improvement and personal development. From 2005-2008 Paul was the SEKU senior squad kumite and kata coach, supporting the squad through a period great success at national and international level. He is now a senior and well-respected member of HDKI GB.

Rick Jackson 8th Dan

Rick Sensei began training in the 1960’s and travelled to Japan in the early 1970’s where he lived and trained for several years at the infamous JKA Hombu Dojo in Ebisu, Tokyo. After returning from his time there, he continued to develop his art, becoming one of the most senior instructors in British karate. He is the founder of Fudochi Shotokan Karate and teaches regularly at Leicester University Karate Club. Blending traditional Shotokan Karate with concepts of Budo and Zazen meditation, Rick Sensei always delivers a thought-provoking and informative class.

Fulvio Pascut 7th Dan

HDKI Ireland are delighted to host Fulvio Pascut 7th Dan for the first time teaching in Ireland. Fulvio Sensei is a long term student of Paolo Bolaffio Sensei, Fulvio is a senior instructor at the Makotokai Hombu in Trieste, Italy and travels throughout the world teaching for the group.

Guy Brodeur Open Seminar

Guy is a professional instructor based in Quebec, Canada.  He began training in 1979, gaining shodan in 1985. Representing Canada both for the SKIF and the All-Styles team, he gained many gold medals in his long competitive career. In 1998 he met Steve Ubl Sensei, a moment that changed his karate journey. Since then, he has spent his time building his organization (Shotokan Canada), training regularly with Steve Sensei, developing his own karate and teaching internationally. This will be the second time Guy Sensei has taught in Ireland, combining a solid biomechanical understanding of technique with a practical application of karate.

Kawawada Sensei is a product of the golden age of the JKA. A graduate of Takusoku University and the Kenshusei programme, he went on to develop into a formidable competitor, becoming Grand Champion at both the JKA All-Japan and the JKA World Championships. After many years teaching and working at the JKA Headquarters, he now dedicates his time to teaching at Nakayama Sensei’s personal dojo, the famous Hoitsugan. Kawawada Sensei has a generous and humorous teaching style and the HDKI are honoured to host him in Ireland for the first time.

JD Sensei is a New Zealand karate-ka who is now resident in the USA and a qualified instructor and examiner with the ISKF. As a very active member of the ISKF College program, he teaches regularly throughout the U.S. He is also the author of Karate Science and Professor in the Department of Biology and Biomedical Sciences at Salve Regina University.
